What is Columbus Open Studio & Stage?
Columbus Open Studio & Stage (COSS) is a two-day event where the Columbus creative community opens their studio and stage doors to the public, shining a light on the creative process. COSS is a tour of artist studios (self-guided) and performing stage tours (scheduled). Studios will offer finished artwork, works-in-progress and demonstrations. Stage venues will provide a behind-the-scenes view of productions. Community Arts Partners will demonstrate their unique and inspired programming to the public. Attendees will have an opportunity to speak with creatives about their process from idea to completion and discover creative resources.
When is the 2018 COSS event?
Saturday, Sept. 29th – Sunday, Sept. 30th 2018 from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Note: Stage tours begin at specific times and require registration at time of map purchase. Tours have limited space and are available until filled.
How do I attend?
COSS is a ticketed event. The COSS map is your ticket and is required for entry to artist studios and stages (partner locations are free and open to the public).
The artist studio tour is self-guided. All you need is a map (your ticket!) or proof of map purchase. Stage tours are at specific times and require registration at time of map purchase (space is limited). The stage tour schedule will be available on the COSS website beginning in August.
Guests may visit our Community Arts Partners any time during COSS tour hours free of charge (no map is required for entry). Select partners will offer visitors an array of free programming to enjoy throughout the weekend.
How much does the tour cost? How do I get a map?
$10 Each / Two for $18 / Four for $35 / Ten for $75 (kids 12 and under are free)
1 map admits 1 person.
Tour maps must be purchased online. Maps may be picked up in person from a COSS Community Arts Partner during normal business hours or from any artist studio during tour weekend by presenting a receipt for purchase. Tour stops can also be found during tour weekend (Sept. 29-30) on the Piggyback App (instructions for download provided after map purchase).
Stage tours require registration at time of map purchase. Stage tours are available until filled (space is limited).
To gain entry at each stop, visitors must present their hard-copy map or purchase receipt to the studio/stage greeter. No refunds will be issued but maps are transferable.
How are the tour stops marked?
Signs will be posted outside every studio and stage space. Just look for the COSS logo! Addresses are provided on the tour map and in the Piggyback App.
What if it rains?
If it rains, bring your umbrella! The tour will go on rain or shine.
How do I purchase work from the creatives on the tour? Will they take credit cards?
Some locations will take credit cards, but please do not expect it. Cash is best. COSS does not take a commission from participating artists – they make 100% of sales.
Please be aware that many items and artwork in studios are fragile. Please ask before you touch.
How much does the average piece of art cost?
There is a wide variety of visual and performing art on the tour. Prices will vary depending on the artist, medium and items offered for sale.

COSS Community Arts Partners are multi-disciplinary arts organizations who regularly offer free public programming and promote art to the community on a regular basis. During COSS tour weekend, select Partners will offer special activities that are free and open to the public. A map is not required for entry to Partner locations. Partners also serve as a location for visitors to pick up COSS tour maps after online purchase.
